A Little About Us ...
Founded in 2008, First Discoveries is a small, family-run school with a commitment to creating amazing learning environments for young children.
​
We began as a very small preschool, serving just 7 children in a summer camp in South Tampa. Over the summer of 2008 and throughout the following school year, our program continued to grow with more children, more classrooms and more staff until we reached our capacity of 90 children. How blessed we were to grow so quickly!

In 2015, we expanded our program by adding a new location in the Brandon/Valrico area. The new location featured huge, open classrooms and a large playground with towering oak trees. It was the perfect place to begin our kindergarten program!
​
For seven years, we had two campuses, one in South Tampa and the other in Brandon/Valrico. It was such a blessing to touch so many lives and to support so many families!
​
Since 2022, we have focused our full attention on our Brandon/Valrico school, offering play-based, nature-inspired early learning programs. Having just one location allows us to grow and strengthen our school, creating a School Family that really serves the needs of our community.

For eighteen years, we have proudly served our community, and we look forward to serving your family, too!

A Micro-School is Born
Our play-based kindergarten program inspired a multi-age micro-school serving children ages 3 to 10 years old, including classes for preschool, kindergarten and primary children (early elementary).

Our children explore literacy, math and so much more through hands-on explorations. They enjoy music and art. They build and create. They grow and learn with joy and excitement each day.
​
One of our primary tenets is that learning should bring joy and a sense of wonder to children's days. We are a nature-inspired school, and we love exploring all the ways that we can learn outside in our amazing outdoor classroom!
What is a micro-school?
A micro-school is a deliberately small school serving mixed age groups of children with small class sizes, innovative curriculum and a focus on building a sense of community.

Our micro-school serves up to 60 children across several classrooms. We believe that mixed age classes allow children and teachers to build meaningful relationships and create individualized learning experiences for children.​
Always Growing, Always Changing
At First Discoveries, we believe that our program should always be growing and changing! We love being a small school that can adjust our program and evolve to meet the needs of our families and our community.

We are excited to be launching programs for homeschool families, including learning pods, hybrid classes and camps / clubs to provide curriculum and enrichment.
​
Our goal is to offer programs that allow homeschool families to become a part of our School Family by attending on a part-time schedule.
